not sure why my garage post is super popular...kind of concerning...but I have an update

They are coming back to do some trim and such, as well as make some minor adjustments, but this is it. The insulation is going to be SWEET. It was 37 degrees outside last night and 60 in my garage with a single 250 watt work light as heat source. This will make winter maintenance much more palatable.

Thats a petty nice door. there can’t be a lot of clearance for the (Landcruiser?). That looks tight.

This is correct.  Its damn tight.  I was going to go with a taller door but upon closer inspection on the structure of the garage it was going to be VERY spendy to raise it.  So, pass.

If i would have known there was this much excitement, i would have posted mine from a month ago! Yours is much nicer on the outside though. I am pumped to have some insulation now for winter work as well (and the fact that the old wooden door had gaps underneath and on the sides made it a bit drafty).

I am surprised the door didn’t come insulated from the factory. The installers will have to add some tension to the springs to accommodate the extra weight. The exterior is sweet with the wood grain.

I had to go cheap when I started my shop project. Have  you ever seen a sliding door in a sliding door?

I need to insulate mine, I’m sure it’d make a huge difference. I’ve heard from a few people that a few of my posts (like the Geddy Lee one a few days ago) showed up in their google recommended stories. I was wondering how such an inane post garnered as many views as it had.

Yes. Caulk the edges to secure it. Usually we cover the foam board with thin plywood and paint.

Yes. Now I see it is insulated from the factory  Good choice. R-11 is 2” thick foam.

That looks quite nice. My house has a garage, but about the only car that would fit it would be Miss Mercedes’s Two-fer. Even if the garage were otherwise empty.

The first door was the old broken one. This is an entirely different door.

I am jealous of the insulation. My garage is well insulated except for the doors, and I’ve yet to find any sort of after-the-fact kit that doesn’t look like shit.
